New Year, New…..What?

As a new homeowner, you can find me constantly updating and decorating my home. For seasons, for new trends, you name it. I recently put in a gas fireplace and I think it adds a lot to the room. As I dream about my next project (and budget it accordingly!) it made me think - What is the best thing to update in your home for resale value?

As we begin a new year, we get inspiration by the décor trends of 2020, and what we loved from 2019. 2019 was full of home decor inspired by nature, bringing back some touches of vintage, tons of texture and pattern, and all things warm and bright.

2019 was all about the white space. White walls, cabinets, fixtures, and tile provide the perfect blank canvas for adding in the rest of these trends. We can’t forget about all that bright, natural light that really makes a space stunning. In contrast to all that white space, we also saw a popular trend of bringing in all the rich textures and patterns — from subtle stripes, light linen, and unique accent pillows to faux fur, chunky knits, and Moroccan-inspired rugs.

Our moms having been telling us our whole lives: everything comes back in style eventually. 2019 was the year of vintage touches, especially in kitchen appliances.

So, with all of that being said, what’s the best way to add value to your home?

In my opinion, updating your kitchen, adding natural light to your living spaces and modernizing fixtures (no more brass!) would be the smartest ways to add value to your home, especially for resale purposes.

At the end of the day, you need to invest in what is right for you and your family! If you’re not big cooks, save your money on a new kitchen and invest in bathrooms. You know what’s best to make your house a home on whatever budget you have to work with.
